The department was established in the year 1982 for imparting state-of the- art education and training in the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering. With an initial intake of 40 students the department has grown steadily and the present intake is 120.
Infrastructure/facilities
The department has a total faculty strength of 31 out of which five are pursuing Ph.D, among them one faculty is about to submit thesis. The department has staff-student ratio of 1:12. Most of the faculty members are PG degree holders with good teaching experience. The department has excellent infrastructure with state of the art equipment and softwares. The faculty always strives for imparting better knowledge to the students and works as a team in all departmental activities.
The department has 6 well equipped labs. i.e. HDL/VLSI/DSP Lab, Microprocessor & Microcontroller Lab, Logic Design Lab, Analog Electronics Lab-I & II, Power Electronics & Project Lab, Advanced Communication Lab & Computer Lab II with a total area of 750 Sqm. The department has total built up area of approximately 2300 Sqm.
Students graduated from the department are well placed in India & abroad. Quite a few of them have pursued higher studies both in India & abroad. A few of them have qualified for Indian Engineering and Defense Services. Students of the department have bagged university ranks many times.

Activities conducted
- The department jointly organized the first ever International conference ICN-2010 during the year 2010 in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region.
- Sri. Rajshekar Reddymasi (Aluminous-1993) Manager, Accenture, Banglore, visited the department on 13/03/2010 and delivered a talk on "Enterprising Networking & Wireless Networks".
- Sri. Sanjeev Bansal (Aluminous-1992) Zonal Manager, M/s Megatherm Pvt.Ltd, Mumbai, visited the department on 24/02/2011 and interacted with the staff of the department. He expressed his willingness to help T & P cell towards the placement of students of REC, Bhalki in his own organization.
- The department jointly organized Two days National level workshop on "Recent advances in Communications" during 6th & 7th July, 2010.

- The department is organizing Six days Workshop on "Programming in HDL & Advanced Microprocessors" during August 2011.
- Excellence in co-curricular and extra curricular activities is encouraged among students to mould them into full-fledged personalities.
- The department is organizing Two days Workshop on "How to be a successful Engineer in Industries" by Sri Mahesh Arali (Aluminous-2002) Microsoft, Hyderabad during Sept.2011.
- The department is organizing One day Workshop on "Lab View" during August 2011.
Achievements
The NBA, New Delhi has accredited Electronics & Communication Engineering department for a period of three years from May 2009 onwards. Prof.A.M.Bhavikatti has been nominated as a reviewer to the "Journal of Chemical Engineering and Material Science" Published from Lagos, Nairobi.
Research initiative (By staff & students)
The department has a strong R & D culture. The department has about 10 publications in reputed International journals & about 5 publications in National journals. Some of the students of the department have participated & presented research papers at National conferences. Some of the faculties have presented research papers at International conferences. The Department has organized many conferences and workshops to enhance the knowledge in advanced fields. These events were very successful and have got lot of appreciation for the same.
